Introduction to American Indian Studies
Provides an interdisciplinary survey of American Indian culture and heritage from an indigenous and tribal perspective. Analyzes historical and contemporary issues of colonialism, identity, agency, sovereignty, and the unique status of Native people within American society today. Explores key concepts of American Indian Studies using an interdisciplinary approach to the history, religion, literature, and art of the First Nations, with a particular focus on self-determination and liberation. Actively engage with American Indians in Ventura County to expose students to anti-racist and anti-colonial issues.
